Pokemon Mystery Dungeon – Explorers of Darkness by Nintendo DS Review

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon – Explorers of Darkness by Nintendo DS is the newest revamp of the Mystery Dungeon series of games. this series basically has you entering one dungeon level after another, until you escape a certain dungeon. these dungeons are always randomly generated, so you’ll never see the same one twice. Thus, you’ll be assured of gaming variety.

The premise of the Pokemon version is that you (the main character) have been turned into a Pokemon and are now in the Mystery Dungeon world. What you need to do know is explore the dungeons, until you find an answer to the mystery of what has happened to you and why this has happened to you.

You can start out as one of over a dozen types of Pokemon depending on your answers to questions at the start of the game. Then, you’ll slowly gain more pocket monster friends who will help you on your search for answers. the battle system mechanics and moves are mostly recycled from the old games, so there won’t be much of a learning curve for all you Pokemon fans.

I bought this game for one of my nephews a few days ago, and he hasn’t stopped playing with it since. He says that the game was much easier than he expected because the Mystery Dungeon series is known for being extremely difficult. He was really happy about this change, and also the fact that he can call for help through the Nintendo DS wi-fi capabilities every time he dies in the dungeon.

If you are looking for a good Nintendo DS game that young kids will just adore, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon – Explorers of Darkness by Nintendo DS is what you’re looking for.

Nintendo explains how it tests a DS

Having owned several generations of gaming hardware, my Nintendo devices always seem to be the most hard wearing. that comes down to a combination of great design and thorough testing, and Nintendo has decided to share some of the tests it puts hardware through to ensure it wont break in the sweaty hands of a gamer.

As part of the company’s 2012 consumer report, Nintendo has posted seven pictures along with a summary of the tests it carries out on the Nintendo DS. These are sure to be just a few of the multitude of tests the device has to pass, but it does demonstrate how tough the DS has to be.

As you’d expect, Nintendo tests the strengthof the keys with a button striking durability test. the exterior surface is checked for wear with a rubbing test, the hinges are tested for performance by repeatedly opening and closing them, and even the wiring is tested for strength by bending it and checking for stress.

The final test detailed on the actual hardware itself is the drop test. the height of the drop isn’t specified, but based on the image, it looks to be about a meter above the ground.

Nintendo also extends testing to product packaging so as to keep the DS safe during transport. the two tests detailed include vibrating a box full of devices on a vibration plate, probably to simulate transport on a truck and poor road surfaces. These boxes will also be stacked, so Nintendo squashes them with a predetermined force equaling the maximum stack height shipping allows in either a container or vehicle.

Beyond that, Nintendo carries out a number of temperature and humidity tests to ensure heat, cold, and moisture don’t impact the electronics and result in a faulty device.

The hardware used in the tests will never make it to retail. Nintendo will just regularly pick final hardware from the production line and carry out the tests to ensure a high quality product is shipping out.
